The Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA Presented by Alaska starts its search for the best basketball players in the country when it holds its first Regional Selection Camp at the Benguet State University, Baguio on Feb. 20 and 21.

Boys and girls may join the search for the ten best boy and five best girl basketball players who will become members of the Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA All-Star team. There is also a search for the boys and girls coaches who will handle the two teams.

The All-Star Team will travel on an overseas for their NBA experience trip together with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia. The 2015 Jr. NBA All-Stars traveled to China to watch the NBA Global Games in Shenzhen featuring the Charlotte Hornets and the L.A. Clippers. The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska is free and open to boys and girls ages 10 to 14 years old (born 2002 to 2006). Interested parties may register at the venue in Benguet State University in Baguio or online through

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Presented by Alaska is one of Alaska Milk’s programs that shape, train, challenge and inspire children to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life. “These holistic programs train children to be confident, disciplined and hardworking because Alaska Milk Corporation aims to prepare them to be winners in life in the future. This year’s program includes new locations such as Batangas, Catanduanes and Cavite to reach more children and coaches and discover the best basketball players across the country,” said Blen Fernando, Marketing Director.

The 2011 National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) revealed that three out of ten children aged 5-10 years were underweight while eight out of one hundred children of the same age were overweight, making malnutrition and obesity two of the most pressing nutritional problems in the Philippines today.

The Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA presented by Alaska is under Alaska Milk’s Nutrition.Action.Champion program. It helps address the issue of overweight and undernourished Filipino children with the promotion of proper nutrition and active lifestyle through sports and outdoor play.

This year’s program started with the tip-off at Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati last Jan. 23. School clinics, that teach the fundamentals of basketball, will run in April with stops in Bukidnon, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, Metro Manila and Puerto Princesa. New locations include Batangas, Catanduanes and Cavite.

Other than Baguio there will also be Regional Selection Camps in Davao (Feb. 27-28), Cebu (March 5-6) and Metro Manila (April 9-10).  The top 50 boys and 24 girls from the Regional Selection Camps will advance to the final selection stage in the National Training Camp in Manila on April 22-24. NBA and WNBA players or legends will attend the National Training Camp to help train and inspire the finalists. The program will culminate with the selection of ten Jr. NBA and five Jr. WNBA All-Stars.

More than 36,000 players and 2,700 coaches have participated in the program since it started in the Philippines in 2007. During the 2015-16 season, the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA program will reach more than 6.5 million youth in 32 countries.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA is the league’s global youth basketball participation program for boys and girls which teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.

ALMOST, MAINE is a mythical place, owing no real geographic reference except to the human heart.

The Cast of Almost Maine.
It is cold bleak landscapes, difficult to live in, and even harder to endure, but somehow the people that inhabit this place still manage to fill it with warmth, love, friendship and hope. It is their emotional journey that makes this place, located in the loneliest and most solitary corners of our hearts, still a place worth living.

Written by John Cariani, ALMOST, MAINE is one of those endearing plays that captures your imagination almost immediately, and never let’s go. With 19 characters played by a cast of only four people, it is most definitely an actor's piece. Two men and two women playing a host of complex characters is a daunting task indeed, and after several rounds of auditions and readings, the actors were finally found.

In the end, Reb Atadero (The Graduate, The Horse And His Boy) Caisa Borromeo (The Secret Garden, Kung Paano Ako Naging Leading Lady), Natalie Everett (The Secret Garden, The Game's Afoot) and Jamie Wilson (Run For Your Wife, The Bridges of Madison County) were chosen to take up the acting chores.

All veterans of Repertory Philippines, the excitement at being cast in ALMOST, MAINE quickly overshadowed the hard work that would soon follow.

In the director's chair, another Rep veteran takes the helm. Always an artist of incredible vision, Bart Guingona (4000 Miles, The Normal Heart) has never been one to do a play as it is written, and has put his own twists and turns on this wonderful material. With stage design by Baby Imperial and Coco Anne, lighting by John Batalla, sound design by Jethro Joaquin and costumes by Marta Lovina, ALMOST, MAINE promises to be a strong offering in Repertory Philippines' 2016 season. ALMOST, MAINE opens at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt One, Makati on February 19th.

The Cast.
JAMIE WILSON will portray Pete, Steve, Chad, Phil, and Dave in Repertory Philippines’ Almost, Maine, the company’s Valentine’s offering for the year. Wilson will bring 36 years of his theater experience to Almost, Maine, which began at the tender age of seven for Rep’s production of Pippin

CAISA BORROMEO will essay the roles of Sandrine, Marvalyn, Gayle and Hope in Almost, Maine, Repertory Philippines’ new play set in the little town of Almost, where the residents fall in and out of love in unusual ways. Borromeo is a Gawad Buhay Award winner, with extensive experience in straight plays and musicals

NATALIE EVERETT will play Ginette, Glory, Marci and Rhonda in Almost, Maine, which the New York Times describes a “higher-concept and more clever version of Hollywood [love stories].” She has had more than 27 roles under her belt, including international stagings of Miss Saigon in Asia and Europe as Gigi Van Tranh

REB ATADERO as East, Jimmy, Lendall, Randy and Daniel in Almost, Maine, Repertory Philippines’ second production for its 49th season. Coincidentally, Almost, Maine marks Atadero’s 10th year on stage after portraying 20 roles in his career. (PR)

The EDSA I know, remembering the People Power revolution.

EDSA, artwork by Ron Axel Magdael.
Growing up in the province, I admit that we don’t feel the pressure or the urge of unity during the heat of EDSA People Power Revolution, being in Palawan during those times spare us from what the whole world is talking about, plus the factor that it’s my younger years and we are busy playing and swimming to our wonderful beaches.

But growing up, studying in school and learning history, it is my interest to further more read and analyzes the so called EDSA People Power Revolution that made the first woman as the President of the Republic of the Philippines, no other than Cory Aquino.

In college my Philosophy professor taught me how great Cory is, he as a student that time and he adore Cory so much, the very reason was when Cory speak to a certain world leaders forum and stand that she will pay all the debts of the country bear by the dictator administration, my Professor is so astonished by this action of a lady Chief Executive, and for him is the greatest thing that Tita Cory has ever done.

EDSA now a days is different from what EDSA before, it is now identified with traffic that many believe is the greatest problem of Metro Manila. May be the spirit of so called “Magkaisa” is no longer a word of mouth when passing at EDSA shrine, it’s just a memory of the past that once mold this nation of ours, of course we all be forever grateful to Tita Cory, for bringing back our democracy.

Presidential aspirant Mar Roxas also has a thoughts about the hero of this revolution, click here. Mar On Cory .

Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead sets asian premiere feb. 11-26

The cast of "Dog Sees God".
Twin Bill Theater proudly presents “ Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead ” as its maiden offering in the local theater scene beginning February 11.

Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead ” by Bert V. Royal is a very cleverly written exploration of modern teen angst as seen by Peanuts characters.  As an “unauthorized parody, ” audiences will be taken on a journey by eight teenagers whose characters are so cruel, so harmful, and how they breathe a breath of reality on today's social issues of sexual relations and identity, bullying, teen violence, drug use, child sexual abuse, suicide, eating disorders, rebellion, and more.

In 2004, “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” was one of the breakout hits at the New York International Fringe Festival, winning the Excellence Award for Best Overall Production, as well as Theatermania's Play Award of 2004, the GLAAD Media Award for Best Off-Off-Broadway production,'s 2006 Audience Award for Favorite Off-Broadway Production and the 2006 HX Award for Best Play.

The play revisits familiar characters from the Peanuts comic strip—Charlie Brown, his little sister Sally, Linus and Lucy, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Shroeder, the Little Red-Headed Girl, and Pigpen—grown up and in high school. All the characters go by different names, because the play was produced as an “unauthorized parody.” (Charles M. Shulz had nothing to do with it.) Van (Linus) is a stoner; Tricia (Patti) and Marcy (Marcie) are party girls; Lucy has been institutionalized for pyromania; CB (Charlie Brown) and Matt (Pigpen) are the popular kids at school, if only because they bully everyone else; and Sally and Beethoven (Shroeder) are mistreated, disliked outcasts.

Directed by Steven Conde, the various roles will be essayed by the most promising new breed of young actors namely Nelsito Gomez, Vince Lim, Brian Sy, Maronne Cruz, Gab Medina, Sarah Facuri, Kathleen Francisco, , and  Faye Camille Velicaria.
Produced by Twin Bill Theater as its first official play for their first season, the founders led by theater professionals Joseph and Francis Matheu noted that their goals are focused primarily on stirring up the public’s interest to rediscover, love and preserve our historical, cultural and spiritual values through theater; and to make quality, thought-provoking productions more accessible to the non-theater going public. The company also aims to produce shows that explore and challenge issues faced by today’s society.

The artistic team of “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead are as follows: Bert V. Royal (Playwright), Steven Conde (Director), Francis G. Matheu (Choreographer), Joseph G. matheu (Lighting Designer), Jay Pangilinan (Musical Scorer), and Winter David (Video Animation). The Production team includes: Josephus Gayona (Production Manager), Bryan Ladim (Stage Manager), Micky torres (Assistant Stage Manager). The Marketing Staff includes: Rianelle Alba, Ivan H. Panganiban, Micky Torres, Jiano Magdaraog, LJ Z. Galvez.

CD-R King, Your one stop shop gives you an insightful iRover safety usage.

Safety Measures in owning an iRover

With great power comes with great responsibility – Ben Parker

The stylish and frolicsome appeal of iRover maybe mistaken as a toy. It is apparent to many that your futuristic iRover/hoverboard is fun to play with, but it is far from being a toy.

As per DTI’s consumer’s safety requirement, it should be clear to hoverboard enthusiasts that the gadget is intended for age 14 and above. We need to realize that we should exercise proper care when using anything that has 2-wheels. Protective gear such as helmet and wrist guards, elbow and knee pads should be worn whenever onboard a hoverboard.

Safety precaution for first-time users includes that the user should be in front of a sturdy handle to achieve balance in riding the iRover. Test your balance by slowly leaning back to move backwards. Gently lean forward to thrust in a slow mode forward. For novice users, always start working on a slow and steady pace until conquering the iRover.

In maneuvering towards left, slightly put weight on the right portion of iRover, while in turning right the left portion should bear more weight.

Battery Recharging is 6 hours and should be done with extreme caution. Presence of an adult should be sternly considered while youthful exuberance are being displayed by the youngsters. It is also advisable that iRover should ideally be for indoor use only.

Your one-stop media provider secure its consumers the necessities in owning an iRover like the do’s and don’ts, offshore manufacturer and store. Thus, should be clearly seen and stipulated on the box.

Pharex launches new 15-day Compliance Pouch to beat high cholesterol this 2016

Quezon City, Philippines - January 14, 2016 - With one in every three Filipinos having high cholesterol levels, how could they control its onset without sacrificing what this year has to offer—on the table?

A study on cholesterol levels among Filipinos led by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute revealed that 31.4 percent of Filipino adults 20 years old and over had “borderline high to high cholesterol levels.” Now that the New Year is here, it is often challenging to control huge consumptions of food—particularly those that are rich in cholesterol—knowing that annual festivities and birthday celebrations are here left and right.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in fats in the blood. Though cholesterol is needed by the body because it is essential to building healthy cells, too much of it could increase a person’s chance of having cardiovascular disease.

“Some people make it a point to reduce their consumption of cholesterol-rich foods especially now that another year has been capped off,” said Tomas Luke Marcelo Agana III, president and CEO of Pharex HealthCorp. “But enjoying what the New Year brings need not come at the expense of sacrificing your year-long joy and family bondings especially when stories are better shared on the table.”

Bearing that in mind, Pharex HealthCorp.—the most prescribed generic brand of medicines—introduces its 15-day Pharex Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol to help Filipino adults who are prone to high cholesterol adhere to their medication without compromising their plans this 2016.
With the new Pharex Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol, Filipinos may prevent the rise of their cholesterol levels by adhering to therapy without sacrificing their budget. This means that Filipinos with high cholesterol may get the same effective, quality maintenance medicines good for 15 days that’s 50 percent more affordable when compared to an imported brand.

“Ideally, the new Compliance Pouch is made for patients who are currently taking maintenance medicines to keep their cholesterol at its normal and desirable levels,” Agana said. “Now, Filipino patients may conveniently take their prescribed medication wherever they go in anytime of the day.”
The new Pharex Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol is indicated for patients who have elevated bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). This type of cholesterol builds up in the walls of the arteries, causing them to harden or become narrower. When left untreated, this may lead to heart attack.

“High cholesterol can be inheritable, but it often comes as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle,” Agana said. “While it is important to religiously take your medication as prescribed by your doctor, it is also imperative to watch what you eat and visit your doctor regularly.”

Pharex Compliance Pouch for Cholesterol is so much more convenient. It comes in a resealable, water-resistant foil pouch that keeps its contents clean and dry. And it is easy to carry so patients will never miss their regular dose.

He concluded, “Pharex makes quality healthcare more affordable and accessible to Filipinos. As the New Year starts, make sure that you carry the Pouch with you to prevent the life-threatening consequences of high cholesterol.” (PR)
