Gallery, Araneta Center
History comes to life as Araneta Center’s Gateway Gallery launches

‘Sining Lakbay: Philippine History in Augmented Reality’
Art meets technology as Gateway Gallery celebrates the second year of its “Sining Saysay: Philippine History in Art” exhibit by launching a digital interface that utilizes augmented reality (AR) to recount Philippine history and make it more interesting to an increasingly digital-savvy generation.
On February 22, the Gallery will launch “Sining Lakbay: Philippine History in Augmented Reality” in connection with its long-term exhibit that depicts prehistoric Philippines up to the time of President Benigno Aquino III in 30 large history paintings by the talented artists of the UP College of Fine Arts.

“Sining Lakbay: Philippine History in Augmented Reality” aims to be a platform for gallery guests to have a more enriched experience of “Sining Saysay,” a collaborative project between the University of the Philippines and the Araneta Center. It also aims to create awareness of history among the youth by appealing to their interest in digital technology.

By downloading a free app (on iOS and Android), visitors will be able to see 10 select paintings “come to life” on their WIFI-enabled digital device like mobile phones and tablets. Using the app, gallery visitors can point their device to the key paintings to watch the video and hear the narration on chapters of Philippine history. The videos are accurate historical accounts of events depicted in the paintings.

The “Sining Lakbay” project is a product of careful and creative implementation among the artists, filmmakers, historians, curators, editors, and technology providers.
Gateway Gallery opened on November 21, 2014. The “Sining Saysay” exhibit celebrates its second year anniversary in the gallery on the 18th of February. The “Sining Lakbay” project will be launched in time for the anniversary of the People Power Revolution on February 25, and with key history players and public personalities in attendance.

An augmented reality interface will soon turn the ‘SiningSaysay’ collection on
display at the Gateway Gallery, Araneta Center into ‘living’ re-telling
 of Philippine history
Located at the 5th level of the Gateway Tower at the Araneta Center, Gateway Gallery is free to the public and is open Mondays to Sundays from 10am to 7pm. It is supported and managed by the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, the CSR arm of the Araneta Group. (PR)

Mike Zambales, Bandillo Ng Palawan, Feb 16-22, 2004.

He is a singing sensation way back then, a groovy professor that made a huge following not only from his students after a local radio hit of an indie record, but it was abrupt after he made a decision to further his studies.

But a singer will always be a singer, during his breaks from the University of the Philippines he always make sure he give in to some request, mostly from his followers who believe there is something when he sing on stage, I must say its the "hugot" on how he express those lyrics, plus of course the refreshing voice that he maintain all year long.

In this write up, Mike stage a comeback concert that features some upcoming artists like him in Puerto Princesa, this was a celebration not only from his local fandom but also from his co-Teachers in Palawan State University.

Prof. Mike Zambales is now base in United States of America with his family. I'm sure he still does sing on occasions with the Filipino community there.

Loving your hair with Novuhair.

The love month doesn’t just pertain to having a relationship with someone, it’s not just about going out on a date or stressing on what to give to your partner or dreaming about what to receive in return. The love month should remind us about everything and everyone we love.

Our parents, siblings or friends who stuck with you through thick or thin should form part of this special month. Loving yourself should not be set aside as well.

Take time to take care of your own appearance and since our hair is on top of our body, it is pertinent that we start with it. Here are a few tips in maintaining a healthy hair.

Observe good hygiene all the time – regularly wash your hair to remove dirt and grimes
Be extra careful whenever combing your wet hair – your hair is vulnerable to breakage during this period.

Use towel to dry off your hair after shower – Using hair dryer can cause damage to your hair; if you must use the heat then do so sparingly.
Eat the proper nutrition- Our hair is also dependent on what we eat. Iron-rich food and protein strengthens your hair.

Have enough sleep – Lack of sleep can cause hair loss. Sleeping allows our hair to repair and regenerate. Changes in our sleeping patterns have shown to affect our body’s immune and hormone function, as well as our physical and mental stamina. Our hair is very sensitive to these changes within the body.

Pamper your hair - Give your hair a proper massage with the nutrients it needs.

Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss is made of 19 Natural ingredients which includes herbal components such as moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, virgin coconut oil and the natural essences of rosemary and peppermint.

Novuhair nourishes the scalp and hair by increasing the flow of nutrients and improving blood circulation to the scalp. Novuhair also helps hydrate the scalp, maintain the hair’s natural luster and prevent early hair graying, hair dryness and itching. #LoveYourHairwithNovuhair

Meet the Sporty Barbers.

A Stylish Destination for the Male Grooming Generation
With pompadours on the rise, man-buns making its way on the street, perfectly trimmed beards and facial hair making an appearance…it’s safe to say that male grooming is finally getting the attention it deserves.

But while men will admittedly make more effort by way of aesthetics, the process of getting the right look still prompts them to demand the simplicity and straightforwardness of traditional barbershops.

“Most women like being whisked away to a secluded world of pampering for their beauty treatments; most men will expect an efficient and clear-cut service—but not at the expense of style,” explains Ramon De Ubago III, CEO of Sports Barbers.

This gave way to a new breed of barbershops—one that delivers the kind of service that they expect that essentially gives a modern take on an old classic. And while there have been a few cropping up here and there, none have been more accessible or as successful in providing the stylish sense that today’s grooming generation seeks than Sports Barbers.

With 12 branches nationwide, it recently unveiled another milestone as it opened its 12th branch in SM North Edsa last December 2016. This place recreates the traditional concept of your go-to neighborhood barbershop and offers a destination.

Its ambience and service, strongly anchored on its team’s ability to provide everything from on-trend cuts to classic styles, is a compelling reminder of inherent masculine values—adventure, straightforwardness, humor and at the end of the day, natural good looks (as opposed to self-conscious preening).

The entire concept of Sports Barbers is to deliver the best cuts for clients, inspired by traditional hairstyles and the most stylish men. The brand’s crop of barber-stylists, a term derived from the fusion of Vidal Sassoon trained cutting and styling mixed with the efficient sensibilities of old-school barbers, mean clients can confidently step into any branch and emerge looking as dapper as they can be.
“The idea is to create a go-to destination for men where they can expect the reliable, time-honored techniques of traditional barbering and yet know they are in the hand of people who will be able to tell the difference between a short sides with brush top versus buzz crop or a pompadour versus a slick back,” ends De Ubago.
Give it a shot. Visit Sports Barbers Barbershop at UP Town Center, SM Clark, Ayala Fairview Terraces, SM Mall of Asia, SM Bacoor, SM Bicutan, SM Southmall, SM Cebu, SM Bacolod, Eastwood Citywalk, SM San Pablo, SM San Lazaro and SM North Edsa. You may also like and follow and (PR)

Ace Dancers. Bandillo Ng Palawan, June 12-18, 2000.

Group of Dancers from different genre is also a thing in Palawan, whenever there's an occasion, pageants or any school program, expect a dance number will be perform, from selected group of girls to boys or even coed.

In Puerto Princesa, one group made a short live shot to fame due to their dancing skills, and probably good looks, they were popular then and even have a huge following of their own from kolehiyalas of many campuses, even gays as well. Ace dancers has many stories to tell from being friends, to break ups and even trying to continue their legacy by having younger members up to now.

Most of them have family of their own and some live outside of Palawan, but they are still intact, their bond as brothers in the dance floor continues. Here is the clip of my feature to them way back 2000.

ONE Championship chairman promises fireworks in organization’s return to Manila.

With ONE Championship returning to Manila, Philippines on 21 April, Asia’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) organization seeks to electrify the 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena once again.

Company chairman Chatri Sityodtong revealed that ONE Championship is preparing a blockbuster event for its tenth venture on Philippine shores.

“April 21st in Manila is going to be a massive, massive event. We are going to have a crazy card for the fans in the Philippines. You’ve got to come out and show your love. We’re going to see some fireworks. It will probably be our biggest event in the Philippines,” he stated,

Sityodtong confirmed that Filipino fighter Eduard Folayang will be defending the ONE Lightweight World Championship title for the first time against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the main event.
Chatri Sityodtong
Last November, the 33-year-old Baguio City native pulled off an upset victory over Shinya Aoki to become an MMA world champion after nine years of competing in the sport.

Folayang dethroned Aoki by way of third-round technical knockout, driving a hard knee to the head before unleashing a barrage of punches to coerce referee Yuji Shimada to wave it off.

“In order to become a legend, you have to beat a legend. He did that despite being dominated by Shinya Aoki in the first round. Eduard Folayang showed what it’s like to conquer the odds,” Sityodtong said of Folayang’s stunning victory over Aoki.

“He is going to defend it in his home country for the first time. I want the entire country, if you’re a Filipino or have a Pinoy heart, you’ve got to watch this fight,” he added.

Aside from Folayang, Sityodtong also confided that Ben Askren will make the third defense of his ONE Welterweight World Championship belt in the Philippines.

Widely regarded as one of the best welterweight MMA fighters in the world today, Askren is no stranger to fighting on Philippine soil as he already fought twice in the country.

Askren is coming off a unanimous decision triumph over Russia’s Nikolay Aleksakhin in April of last year, keeping his unblemished MMA record intact.

As for Askren’s challenger in April, Sityodtong bared that an announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

According to Sityodtong, ONE Championship’s matchmakers are working really hard in filling up the bout lineup for its trip to the Philippines on 21 April.

"We’re definitely going to have some of the biggest Filipino superstars back. I hope to see the best and the brightest from the Philippines. I also hope to see Geje Eustaquio and Kevin Belingon,” he shared.

Although the promotion plans to further extend its reach across Asia, Sityodtong admitted that the Philippines remains one of ONE Championship’s key markets in the region.

“The Philippines is a very important market for us. I truly believe that ONE Championship can become mainstream where every single Filipino is enthralled with what ONE Championship has to offer,” he stated.

Sityodtong stressed that ONE Championship sets its sights in cultivating more homegrown talents from the Philippines.

“The Philippines is a nation of warriors. There are still a lot of talents coming out of the Philippines. It has a very rich history of martial arts. So we will see a lot of great things,” he ended.

The emotional roller-coaster ride of Eurydice.

Audie Gemora as Ama and Lhorvie Nuevo as Eurydice.
(Photos by Jojo Mamangun)
Para sa pag-ibig, ano’ng kaya mong gawin?

What can you do for love? The question really is, what won’t you do for love?

Get ready to witness a different kind of love triangle between Eurydice, Orfeo and Eurydice’s father. We explore love, loss and the pleasures of pain and memory in this myth’s contemporary retelling that shows the young and very much in love Orpheus and Eurydice.

Eurydice meets a man in her wedding, claiming that he has letters for her from her dead father. As she struggles to take hold of the letter from the man, she dies in the process and arrives in the Underworld to her father. As Orfeo tries to pursue her and descend to the Underworld, she must choose between ‘the love for her husband which she has already forgotten’ and her ‘father’s unconditional love.‘
Director Loy Arcenas touches on the underlying problem with falling in love – that one is always ahead of the other, and a familial devotion between a father and daughter. He asks, “Why is Eurydice so much more in love with her father?” Maybe it’s the father’s paternal tenderness pulling her in. He continues, “Maybe Eurydice wants someone to cocoon her and show her unselfish love [that transcends youth, beauty and infatuation]. Orfeo does not get this until the after life.”

“How can one possibly fall in love with another person? For us to fall in love, we have to find a way to give ourselves. How much of one’s self can you give to falling in love?” Director Loy Arcenas throws us hard hitting questions that take us into an emotional rollercoaster dealing with love, love lost and grief. We are also presented with the complexity of being in a relationship and the differences two people in love have to deal with, such as having different expressions or languages of love.

This depiction of Eurydice is arbitrary and unorthodox, and mirrors the realities of the human condition. Despite the sadness of the myth, a sense of wonder and hope envelopes deeper themes of death, love and loss.

Tanghalang Pilipino’s Eurydice is not your typical love story. It is indeed a story about love – embracing not just romantic love but also the bond between a father and a daughter, family relationships, the complexity of marriage, and dealing with life & the afterlife.

Theme and Setting
Be enthralled with a lot of imagery – water currents as an elevator in which it rains to get to the Underworld, rocks that taunt and whisper, flowers that adorn the wedding setting, and most of all, a thrust stage – one that extends into the audience on three sides and is connected to the backstage area – to provide greater intimacy between performers and the audience.

The cast features Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company’s Lhorvie Nuevo for the title role and Marco Viaña as Orfeo, with guest actors Audie Gemora and Juliene Mendoza alternating as the Father, and Alfritz Blanche as the Big Stone.

The production staff includes Loy Arcenas, direction and set design; Tanghalang Pilipino Actors Company’s Antonette Go and Joshua Tayco, assistant direction; Barbie Tan – Tiongco, lighting design and technical direction; Teresa Barrozo, sound design; and James Reyes, costume design.

Tanghalang Pilipino is on its milestone 30th theater season, and as we close this season, we are proud to offer, EURYDICE, a Filipino adaptation by Guelan Luarca of Sarah Ruhl’s play of the same title, based on the Greek myth of the love between Orpheus and Euridice.

Eurydice will run at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater) from February 17, 2017 until March 5, 2017, at the following times, Fridays at 8PM, Saturdays at 3PM and 8PM, and Sundays at 3PM.

Tickets are at 1,500 and 1,000. Tickets for students are at a discounted price of 750 and 500. Subscriptions and group discounts are also available through Tanghalang Pilipino at 832.1125 locals 1620-21, 822.2920 (direct line) or through Ms. Lorelei Celestino at 0915.607.2275 or 0908.894.1384

Tickets are available through TicketWorld at or 891.9999; and the CCP Box Office at 832.3704. (PR)

The Divas return, the one and only Caredivas.

Philippine Educational Theater Association’s (PETA) comedy musical Care Divas returns to open its 50th anniversary with a whopping 50 shows from February 3, 2017 until March 19, 2017 at The PETA Theater Center.

Care Divas a disarmingly funny and candid musical drama about 5 transgender Overseas Filipino Workers in Israel who work as care givers in the morning and transform into glamorous drag queen performers at night. While desperate to make ends meet, they also struggle to search for acceptance in a foreign land.

The musical dominated the 2011 Philstage Gawad Buhay! Awards, bagging seven trophies including Outstanding Stage Direction, Outstanding Musical Direction, Outstanding Musical Production and Outstanding Ensemble Performance for a Musical.

The play’s wickedly funny text, written by award-winning playwright Liza Magtoto, tells of the lives of the main characters: the kind and loving Chelsea, the often-sarcastic group leader Shai, the ditzy Thalia, the bubbly Kayla, and the ill-tempered Jonee.

Vincent de Jesus’ musical score leaves audiences humming tunes as it weaves through the narrative. Under the direction of Maribel Legarda, the creative team behind the show includes costume designer John Abul, lighting designer Jonjon Villareal, visual artist and set designer Leo Abaya, and contemporary dancer and choreographer Carlon Matobato.
Care Divas includes a powerhouse cast of theater actors: PETA artists Melvin Lee, Vince De Jesus, Ron Alfonso, Dudz Teraña, Eko Baquial, Jason Barcial, Buddy Caramat, Gio Gahol, Joan Bugcat, Eric Dela Cruz, Joseph Madriaga, and Gold Villar; plus guest artists Ophir Burton, Ricci Chan, Red Concepcion, Jef Flores, Paul Holme, Sherry Lara, Thou Reyes, Leo Rialp, and Myke Salomon.

PNP Police Chief Insptr. Espenido Declares Ozamiz City “0” on illegal drugs activity.PNP

PNP Chief Jovie Espenido
Ozamiz City - New Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido declares that Ozamiz City is a near – 0 – drug free activity in the whole of Misamis Occidental. Out of the 10 drug test buy activity conducted, only 2 of it held illegal drugs and it is not clear whether the source is from the city itself or from another location.

Transferred from Albuera, Leyte last 2016, Police Chief Inspector Espenido is glad to find the local government open to discussions on drug bust activities in the city. After being tagged as the new drug-buster of Leyte, Espenido is now faced with clearing the name of Ozamiz City as an active drug activity place in Mindanao. From the latest regular session meet last January 16, 2017 held at the city hall of Ozamiz, he was invited to present his assessment on the latest drug activity in the city. For him, this open door policy exhibited by the local government is a positive sign for him to create a good relationship with the local government and the police force.

Based on his assessment report presented to the local government, the drug activity of the place is quite minimal compared to the perception of those non-residents of the said city. His is quite positive that this present trend will lead from minimal to 0-drug related activity in a couple of years since the local government is in full support in eradicating all illegal drug activity in their city.

From the side of the local government, they are quite pleased with the assessment report presented by the new police chief inspector and shall continue to maintain an open door discussion with the police force to help eliminate the false assumption held by those who has initially believed in the high drug activity in the city.

This latest development between the police force and the local government is a clear sign of a hand-in-hand cooperation and relationship in fighting all illegal drug activity in the area of Misamis Occidental starting with Ozamiz City. (PR)

Hec Fernandez-Encarnacion. Bandillo Ng Palawan, Sipet-Sipet Espesyal Jan 31-Feb 6, 2000.

One of my earliest writings in Bandillo is about the Palaweno rockstar Hec Encarnacion, I first met him over my radio program in DYPR-AM wherein he just come by to promote his own album, being a singer and having an album is big wow during that time I guess even until now. On air he share a lot about his passion which is music, and his desire to do a show in the province.

Hec make waves in the national entertainment scene that time, he was able to do guesting and perform in different variety shows, and even to some showbiz talkshows.

We even ask Hec to perform in the newly revived DYPR Big Show held every saturday night at Mendoza Amphitheater,  and the rest is a bunch of memories with this guy whose heart is larger than life.

Hec is now base in Puerto Princesa with his family, he is still active and doing gigs once and while in different bar and venues in Palawan.
