Filipino Eric "The Naturally" Kelly sees move to lightweight in MMA.

Eric Kelly
Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Eric “The Natural” Kelly has been competing as a featherweight since he started his prizefighting stint eight years ago in the flourishing Philippine combat scene.

After spending most of his career as a featherweight with 15 professional bouts, Kelly decided to venture into a new territory as he moves up in another weight class.

The 35-year-old native of Baguio City, Benguet makes his lightweight debut against Japanese MMA legend Kotetsu “No Face” Boku on the undercard of ONE: KINGS & CONQUERORS, which takes place at the glamorous Cotai Arena of The Venetian Macao in Macao, China. Kelly sees his jump to ONE Championship’s 77.1-kilogram weight class as a new chapter in his illustrious run as a world-class MMA athlete.

“It’s a new beginning for me. It’s somehow a permanent move since this is my walking weight. We have to abide by the weigh-in rules of the company. I am comfortable with the weight,” he said.
“I am excited to be in this new journey. I hope everything will turn our great for me as a lightweight,” Kelly added.

Although Kelly’s last two outings as a featherweight competitor resulted to throbbing setbacks inside the ONE Championship cage, he looks to erase the painful memory by picking up a statement-making victory over Boku in his maiden assignment as a lightweight.

“It's been a year since the last time that I fought. I am looking forward to put on a great performance for my beloved country. I have been training hard and going through strategies. I hope to give my 110 percent inside the ONE Championship cage in Macao. I am coming to win,” he stated.
Fighting fire with fire
Even if Boku presents too much danger in the striking department, Kelly has no qualms when it comes to trading kicks and punches with the highly-touted Japanese combatant. With more than 30 professional matches on his resume, Boku has the experience of a seasoned veteran and has seen it all whether it is inside the cage or the ring. Always a crowd pleaser, Boku utilizes his dynamic boxing background with well-regarded grappling arsenal to subdue his opponents.

“To tell you honestly, I am in a very tough fight. It’s nerve-wracking in a sense, but I am ready to accept the challenge,” Kelly said about the marquee match-up. “I want to trade strikes with my opponent. He is dangerous in that aspect, but I can see some loopholes.” Kelly asserted that he has a fair share of knowledge in terms of delivering blows from a toe-to-toe stance.

“I might be known for my submission wins, but I also have striking in my skill-set,” he reminded.
Before becoming an MMA fighter, Kelly was first introduced to Yaw-Yan, a Filipino style of kickboxing with emphasis on hip-torquing motion and delivering attacks from long range as well as the downward-cutting nature of its kicks.

After mastering Yaw-Yan, Kelly then transitioned to Wushu Sanshou, where he represented the Philippines in various international tournaments from 2001 to 2004. When Kelly started his MMA career in 2009, he has been heavily regarded as a submission specialist, owning nine triumphs by way of forcing his foes to tap. Kelly seeks to test his leverage over Boku, who tasted five of his 11 career losses by way of submission.

“I am prepared wherever the fight goes. If there’s chance to submit him, I will submit him. If there’s an opportunity to knock him out, I will go for it,” he bared.
Resorting to his bread-and-butter is stylistically the obvious option for Kelly, but he sets his sights on a knockout win. The last time that Kelly knocked out an opponent was in August 2012 when he stopped former UFC lightweight titleholder Jens Pulver in the second round with a left roundhouse kick to the body.

“I am looking for statement win this time around. Knocking him out will be an accomplishment because he is a good fighter and a tough opponent,” Kelly stressed.
While championship gold has always been his ultimate goal, he does not want to rush into it like he would when he was younger.

Instead, Kelly wants to earn it one match at a time, and that quest begins on 5 August by defeating Boku at ONE: KINGS & CONQUERORS.

“A world title can wait. Right now, I have to redeem myself in front of my countrymen and cement my status as one of the best lightweights on the planet today. I might be 35 years old, but I am not giving up. I am here to stay,” he ended.

The white cross in Magarwak. Bandillo Ng Palawan March 26 to April 8, 2007.

If your travelling north of Puerto Princesa, I am sure you notice the big white cross standing tall in the scenic mountain view of Magarwak area that was part of Brgy. Sta. Lourdes. Many are asking about the history of it, who is the person in charge of building the said cross.
Sis. Shirley Banzuela
Here we provide the article pertaining to the said cross, as reference to give background and the reason behind the construction. Faith healer Sis. Shirley Banzuela from Antipolo in Rizal first came in Palawan in May 2004 during a big healing event, after that she receive a message from God Father that asking her to construct a huge cross, and that's were the Magarwak cross was built, and fully erected in Sept 28, 2004.
The view from the cross.
It is open to public who wish to climb and see the scenery up there, her house beside the road is the entrance to the way of the cross, it is also a place for people looking for alternative healing, there are rumors that Sis. Shirley is doing her healing thru kissing her patients, but upon this interview we didn't see that style, what she does is touching you while reciting a prayer. Check the published article below for the complete story.

The Hot Spring in Sta. Lucia.

Sta. Lucia Hot Spring & Nature Park.
Yes, there is no active volcano in Palawan, but we have hot spring that you can visit and take a dip on especially during rainy season or even in summer days.
In Puerto Princesa City alone we have two spots for hot spring aficionados, one in Brgy. Sta. Lourdes and in Sta.Lucia.  We drove going south this time and made a final curtain call in Sta.Lucia Hot Spring that was manage by City Environment Natural Resources Office.

I can’t remember my last visit to this place but what I notice is there is no minimal change, the swimming area was located in the top most area before, but It was now reconstructed with a bigger 4 pool in one roof swimming area, plus one Kiddie size pool.
Kids Pool
Cottages are around the area where you can leave your things, no charges for swimmers since the City ENRO is only collecting a donation fee that not even required.  Since it is located in a middle of forested area, expect bees and mosquito that may disturb you, be ready with any mosquito repellent in case.
The 4 Square type Pool.
The water is not that hot, just enough warm to keep your troubles away, somehow I feel rejuvenate after swimming and looks good on skin, maybe because there are few people who were there at that time. If you prefer the hot one take the first pool left side facing the main spring pool.
The main hot spring its off limits to guest due to its soft soil or quicksand.
The pool is open Monday to Sunday from 7am up to 5pm only, you can bring food or even cook it there since they have area for cooking, and obviously it is not that cozy or develop for commercial purposes, basically this is one venue of Puerto Princesans to detox.
The former pool area up there.
Going there must take up National Highway south of the City, past Iwahig to the left side you will see a wooden signage of the place, a feeder road of all season will take around 3 to 5 minutes before you reach the welcome area. A small sari-sari store is open inside but they don’t have that much.

Reservation is  not required since it is a first come first serve basis, having a private vehicle is recommended but if you’re commuting, its better to hire a tricycle or van so you can arrange your drop off and pick up.

Ballet Philippines Collaborates With Eisa Jocson In “Your Highness”

Eisa Jocson’s newest creation, “Your Highness” will have its world premiere on July 27 (8pm) and 28 (3pm, 8pm) at the CCP Little Theater, and will be performed at several major European performing arts festivals from August to September 2017. The work is a production by Ballet Philippines and Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main (Germany), in co-production with Internationales Sommerfestival Kampnagel (Germany), Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Switzerland), La Bâtie – Festival de Genève (Switzerland).
Eisa Jocson
Eisa Jocson is an internationally renowned artist creating and touring works in Asia, Europe, America and Australia. Educated as a visual artist and trained as a ballet dancer, she won her first pole-dancing competition in Manila in 2010 and began her international dance career with public interventions like “pole-tagging” here and abroad. Her 3 solos, “Death of the Pole Dancer” (2011), “Macho Dancer” (2013) and “Host” (2015) toured extensively in major festivals abroad. Under the HAPPYLAND (2017) series, her new creations, “Princess” a duet with Filipino performance artist Russ Ligtas and “Your Highness” are a continuation of her investigation into Filipino labour, performance of happiness and production of fantasy within the happiness empire. “Your Highness” is her first ensemble creation, and is the first of all her works to be premiered and produced in the Philippines.
In “Your Highness”, the classically trained dancers masterfully alternate between stylized Disney gestures and standards of ballet classics like Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake – and explore the fine line between portrayals of happiness through ballet history and princess archetypes in a globalized entertainment industry.

The massive employment of Filipino performers by Hong Kong Disneyland has led to a dire brain drain, with its impact strongly felt in Ballet Philippines, which has lost half of its top dancers within the last decade. Against this backdrop, choreographer Eisa Jocson has now created a dance piece with five young dancers of the Ballet Philippines.

“As an independent Filipina choreographer it is a unique and inspiring adventure to collaborate with Ballet Philippines in creating this new ensemble work,” shares Jocson. “It is exciting to see the dancers push their capacities into unknown terrain with incredible virtuosity. And I am looking forward to share this performance born out of an intense and meticulous process of exploring the dancer's and ballet's manifold bodies and voices.”

“Your Highness” international artistic team is led by Eisa Jocson (choreographer), Gia Gequinto, Stephanie Cabral, Maila Habagat, Alexis Piel, and Carlo Padoga (Ballet Philippines dancers), Arco Renz & Anna Wagner (dramaturgs), Teresa Barrozo (music & sound design), Florian Bach (lighting design), and Dennis Maristany (costume design).
